Triple Transporter Model for Bile Salt Homeostasis

Using Optivia’s technology scientists now have the option to study the effect of a compound on bile salt homeostasis. The Triple Transporter Model for Bile Salt Homeostasis: OATP1B1, NTCP, BSEP  Optivia scientists have expressed OATP1B1 and NTCP on the basolateral side and BSEP on the apical side (Fig. 1).  OATP1B1 and NTCP transport bile salts and/or small molecules into the liver. BSEP is one of the main transporters responsible for efflux of bile salts  and small molecules into the bile. Using this system the trans-cellular transport  (Fig 2) and intracellular concentration (Fig 3)of bile acids and xenobiotics can be monitored.
