SMVT Transporter Assay (SLC5A6)

SMVT is the sodium dependent multivitamin transporter. It is widely expressed in many tissues including the intestines, kidney, heart, lung and the blood-brain barrier.

Creating biotinylated conjugates has been used as a strategy for drugs such as HIV protease inhibitors to exploit SMVT to achieve higher permeability into select organs and penetration across the blood-brain barrier (BBB). SMVT over expressions has been shown in some tumor cells, providing a possible route for increased uptake and targeted distribution of oncology drugs.
