SERT Transporter Assay (SLC6A4)

The SERT Transporter Assay is a monoamine transporter protein. SERT is found  in brain and many peripheral tissues and is responsible for the active transport of serotonin (5-HT) into neurons, enterochromaffin cells, platelets, and other cells. In brain, SERT is situated both in presynaptic membranes of nerve terminals and in dendritic arbors in close proximity to serotonin-containing cell bodies in the midbrain and brain stem raphe nuclei. SERT mediates rapid removal and recycling of released serotonin following neuronal stimulation.
